In this article, we will take a look at the fantasy consistency metric that I created during the offseason, and look to see which RBs and WRs are the most reliable through week 5. For those of you who play best ball, inconsistent fantasy players are useful–they offer volatility that allows your team to have high ‘boom’ potential without the added risk of wasting a starting spot on them.

In the graphic below, you can see each WR’s consistency rating–ratings that fall in between the two red lines show players who are inconsistent. Players who have ratings that fall to the right of both red lines are players who have been consistently good. Players who have ratings that fall to the left of both red lines are players who have been consistently bad.

Sone key takeaways:

  • Both of the top Eagle receivers are inconsistent!
  • Both of the Seahawks receivers are inconsistent!
  • Deebo Samuel has been a little inconsistent so far–will he be able to turn his performance around?
  • Michael Thomas is consistent–can he keep this up?

We found in my articles over the summer that you could almost always identify a player’s season performance (whether they would be inconsistent or consistent for the season) after Week 5 based on their starting trend. Let’s use this to zone in on some players to determine who to buy and sell.

WR Buys:

  • Tee Higgins
  • Amari Cooper
  • Deebo Samuel
  • Jakobi Meyers
  • Marquise Brown

WR Sells:

  • Dionte Johnson
  • Chase Claypool
  • Russel Gage
  • Devonta smith
  • D.J. Moore

Too Early to tell:

  • A.J. Brown
  • Justin Jefferson

Now for our RBs. Some key takeaways:

  • James Conner hasn’t been able to hit his same consistency levels as last season yet
  • Is Hunt more consistent than Chubb?
  • Etienne hasn’t been reliable

Now we can look at the consistency trends through Week 5 to determine who to buy and sell.

RB Buys:

  • James Robinson
  • Kareem Hunt
  • Nick Chubb
  • Breece Hall
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire

RB Sells:

  • Najee Harris
  • Tony Pollard
  • Ezekiel Elliott
  • Travis Etienne
  • Raheem Mostert
  • Dalvin Cook

Too Early to tell:

  • Joe Mixon
  • Alvin Kamara

That’s all for this article, stay tuned for more fantasy metrics in the coming weeks!
